Having a Neighbor's aide help out when my 88-year-old mother came to visit this Christmas was a godsend. My mother has Alzheimer's, aphasia and uses a walker. She has a great deal of trouble getting up and down the stairs to the spare room on the second floor. Our aide came every morning at 9:00 a.m. to give my mother a shower, wash her hair, help her get dressed and bring her down to breakfast. Then she tidied up the bathroom and bedroom before she left. The Christmas before we tried to do everything ourselves but we were all thumbs and ended up flooding the bathroom floor and upsetting my mother. Plus we were exhausted with the effort. Having help from an aide made Mom's visit so much more enjoyable for everybody. We'll definitely do it again next year.

My mother, Florence is suffering from the later stages of Alzheimer's disease. My father passed away this past July. He suffered greatly in the last few months of his life because he felt the burden of my mother's illness and he did not have the proper home care he needed. If he could only be here to experience the help we have finally been blessed with, his life would have been so much easier. From the first phone call I made to Paulette in the main office, the services provided by Neighbors have been nothing but exceptional. During the first phone call, I was greeted with complete understanding of our needs. That very evening an experienced, Certified Home Health Aide was at my mother's home. Since the time we began using the services of Neighbors three outstanding caregivers have become familiar with our family. We have a great relationship with our full time aide and have established wonderful relationships with the other aides who have filled in whenever we needed additional assistance. They are all so terrific. They are warm, kind, caring and extremely competent.

Our aides kept my mother spotless no matter how many times they had to clean her, administer prescribed lotions and change her bed clothes. The y kept her as comfortable as possible, keeping her bed wrinkle-free, wires and tubes untangled and telephone within reach. They also lavished attention on making my mother's surroundings as neat and pleasing as possible- putting up cards and pictures, taking care of flowers.

My mother was worried that she would fall stepping in and out of the bathtub to take a shower. She was afraid that nobody would find her for days so she stopped showering regularly. Now we have Gloria from Neighbors come in a few times each week to help her get in and out of the shower. Gloria also helps her wash her hair because that was getting hard for Mom. My mother is more relaxed and looks better groomed. She really looks forward to Gloria’s visits- I think she likes the cup of tea and little chat they have before Gloria leaves.

I am writing to thank you for the aide services you provided for my mother while she was in the hospice care program. In particular, I'd like to single out Helena for the exceptional care she provided Mom while she was so sick. Helena seemed tireless and went way out of her way to ensure Mom was comfortable.

I cannot begin to tell you how significant the differences were between the aides from Neighbors and the aides I had from other agencies… Neighbors’ aides were wonderful, warm people… so well trained, so professional and so experienced. In their care my Mother became more confident, relaxed and optimistic… more like her old self.
